Power & Climate Control for the Soundstorm Dance Tent
Within the wider MDL Beast Soundstorm programme at Ban Ban, the Dance Tent is a high-capacity indoor-style experience on a temporary site: dense production, continuous music programming, and thousands of guests under fabric and structure rather than permanent architecture.
FLOW provided a substantial temporary power supply supporting the festival’s extensive lighting, sound systems, and stage effects, all designed to create an immersive environment. The same engagement included a comprehensive HVAC package for the Dance Tent, maintaining a comfortable 20°C internal environment with both cooling and heating for 15,000 attendees regardless of external weather conditions.
That combination of production power and large-volume climate control is typical of premium temporary venues in the Gulf, where guest comfort and show quality have to land at the same standard as permanent arenas.
What FLOW delivered
- Power: Temporary generation and distribution for lighting, sound systems, and stage effects inside the Dance Tent environment.
- Cooling & heating: Full temporary HVAC package holding approximately 20°C for up to 15,000 attendees, with both cooling and heating capability as external conditions shifted.
- Design: Integrated power and HVAC planning so climate plant, production loads, and distribution routes worked as one temporary venue package.
Why it mattered
Large temporary tents with dense occupancy build heat quickly from people, lighting, and audio. In Riyadh, outdoor temperatures can also fall sharply at night, so dual-mode HVAC (cooling and heating) protects comfort across the full programme day, not only the afternoon peak.
Production power for immersive lighting and sound must remain stable while HVAC plant draws continuously. Segregating critical show circuits from climate loads, and sizing generators and distribution for concurrent demand, is essential to avoid brownouts or thermal drift mid-set.
For festival technical teams, the Dance Tent is a clear example of temporary venue engineering: treat the structure like a permanent room for comfort and power quality, even though the site exists for only a few days.
