Temporary Power for the Esports World Cup

The Esports World Cup is the largest professional esports event in the world. In Riyadh, the programme combines elite competition with a public festival at Boulevard City: community tournaments, live music, retro arcades, anime cafes, cosplay, and creator studios running alongside the main stages.

Over eight consecutive weeks, 1,500 athletes and more than 200 clubs competed across 22 tournaments and 21 titles with a record-breaking $60M prize pool. That schedule turns temporary power from a one-night show package into a multi-week infrastructure programme with continuous availability for broadcast, production, and public-facing spaces.

FLOW supported the event with temporary power and engineering design, aligning generation and distribution with how modern esports festivals actually load: dense LED and AV, IT-heavy production areas, and overlapping daily programmes rather than a single peak evening.

• Design: Engineering layout and power planning for multi-week operation, so distribution routes, diversity of load, and changeovers could be managed as the programme evolved.

Why it mattered

Esports production is electrically dense and time-sensitive. Stage lighting, LED walls, sound, broadcast compounds, player areas, and fan experiences all draw at once, often for long daily windows. In Riyadh summer conditions, thermal management of enclosed production and hospitality spaces compounds the demand on temporary plant even when permanent venue cooling is available nearby.

A multi-week calendar also changes logistics. Equipment must stay reliable through repeated daily use, not only for a weekend peak. Temporary power design has to leave room for last-minute activations, sponsor builds, and late programme adds without compromising main stage or broadcast circuits.
